Who is permanent makeup recommended for, and who should avoid it?

Permanent makeup is a great choice for anyone who wants a polished, well-groomed look every day – even without makeup. It’s an ideal solution if you have a busy morning routine, live an active lifestyle, or are simply tired of your makeup smudging throughout the day.

However, in cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain skin conditions, or recent cosmetic procedures, it is best to wait. During a consultation, we will ensure that everything is in place for you to achieve the most beautiful and safe results.

Absolutely not! Your natural brow hair is a crucial guide during the design process, so we only tidy up a few stray hairs if necessary. The goal is to blend the tattooed strokes with your natural hair to create the most realistic look possible. Shaving off the entire eyebrow is completely unnecessary and, in fact, strongly discouraged.

There’s no need to worry—we use high-quality anesthetic creams and gels, so most clients report only a slight tingling or tickling sensation. Of course, everyone’s sensitivity is different, but the goal is always to keep you comfortable. We’ll chat and listen to music during the session, making it a completely manageable and relaxed experience.

On average, you should set aside 2 to 3 hours, depending on the area being treated. This includes the design process, numbing, color selection, and the tattooing itself. We never rush; everything is about precision and beauty. I believe it’s better to be perfect than fast!

Surface healing usually takes 5 to 10 days, but full skin regeneration requires about 4 to 5 weeks. During the first few days, slight peeling or changes in color may occur—this is completely normal. The pigment will appear darker at first, then soften into a beautiful, natural shade. While careful aftercare is essential during this time, there is absolutely no need to ‘hide away from the world’ for weeks.

Touch-ups are typically performed 6–8 weeks after the initial treatment, once the skin has fully healed. Think of this as the “fine-tuning” stage: if necessary, we can slightly enhance the color intensity or perfect the shape. The first touch-up session is free of charge, and it is this step that ensures your permanent makeup remains durable and flawless.

Generally, the results stay beautiful for 1.5 to 3 years, though this depends on your skin type, lifestyle, and skincare habits. Lighter, more natural shades may fade sooner. For the best look, it’s recommended to have a color refresh occasionally to keep the effect fresh and polished. Think of it as long-lasting makeup that requires a little “maintenance” every now and then.

A few days before your session, it is recommended to avoid alcohol, blood thinners, sunbathing, and chemical peels. Make sure to rest well, stay hydrated, and if possible, arrive without makeup. This way, your skin will respond much better, and the pigment will settle more effectively. Think of it as preparing for a little “beauty-relaxation day.”

Immediately after the treatment, the color will be more intense, and the area may be slightly swollen – but this will completely settle within a few days. Don’t worry, the final shade will be about 30–40% lighter. You will see the beautiful new shape of your features right from the first few days; just give it a little time to “settle in.”

For the first 10–14 days, avoid getting water, sweat, or makeup on the treated area, and always use the recommended aftercare cream. Please do not pick or scratch the area, no matter how tempting it may be! 🙂 Avoid direct sunlight, saunas, and solariums until fully healed. Your skin will thank you for your patience: the final result will be beautiful, natural, and long-lasting.

A color refresh is usually recommended after 1.5 to 2 years, when the color begins to fade slightly. At this stage, there’s no need to start from scratch; we simply “refresh” the color and the shape. The more regularly we maintain it, the better the shape remains preserved over time. It’s a little bit of maintenance to ensure you always look your best.

It is recommended to wait at least 3–4 weeks after your session before having any other cosmetic treatments. Your skin needs time to fully regenerate, and it may be more sensitive during this period. Facial treatments, peels, or massages on the freshly tattooed area can interfere with the pigment. If you’re unsure about anything, please don’t hesitate to ask me – I’m happy to help you decide when it’s safe to go back.

The touch-up is the “grand finale” of permanent makeup – it’s what makes the result truly perfect. Every skin type heals differently, so the pigment may settle more lightly in some areas. During the touch-up session, I balance the color, refine the shape, and can even enhance the intensity if you wish. This small but vital step provides the final, stunning look.

For your safety, there are certain conditions under which permanent makeup cannot be performed. These contraindications include:

  • Fever or infectious diseases

  • Plastic surgery, surgical procedures, Botox, or Hyaluronic fillers on the treated area within the last 3 months.

  • Eye surgery within the last year (relevant for eyeliner procedures only).

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.

  • Epilepsy.

  • Under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • AIDS/HIV or Hepatitis infection.

  • Active cancer treatment (during chemotherapy or radiation therapy).

  • Active cold sores (herpes).

  • Blood-thinning medications (e.g., anticoagulants).

  • Certain herbal supplements (e.g., turmeric, ginkgo biloba, cinnamon, garlic, ginger, etc.).

  • Vitamin C and Vitamin E.

  • Important: Please stop taking these vitamins and herbal supplements 1-2 days before your appointment, after consulting with your doctor if necessary.

It is essential that eyelash extensions are removed before your eyeliner procedure, and all glue residue must be completely gone. If you have extensions, I recommend having them professionally removed at least one week before your appointment. The area around a fresh tattoo must be free of foreign materials to prevent irritation or inflammation and to ensure the pigment settles beautifully. You should wait until after the touch-up session and its full healing period before having new extensions applied.

If you have previous permanent makeup from another artist, the most important step is for me to assess its current condition. Therefore, a consultation – either in person or via high-quality photos – is required before booking. If the old tattoo is faded enough and easily correctable, we can simply refresh it. However, if it is too dark or distorted, lightening or removal may be necessary first. Every case is unique, and we will decide together on the best approach to achieve the most beautiful result for you.
